About Our Founder
Founder and Director, Francisco Espinosa
Mexican Folkloric Dance has been a part of my life since my early childhood. I can remember my older brothers and sisters dancing on stage and it would fill me with great happiness and pride. When I'm on stage in front of an audience I do my very best to represent the art of dance and the emotion that I felt as a child seeing my older siblings perform. Now, as the founder of Danza Folklorica Quetzalcoatl, my new purpose is to guide our students to develop their true potential and shine on stage as they share their Mexican culture through the traditional folkloric dance.
- Francisco Espinosa

Born and raised in Mexico City, Francisco Espinosa began dancing at the early age of 12. He received his training of Mexican Folk Regional dance from Master teacher Encarnacion Martinez and his training of Aztec Dance from Principal dancer Cruz Hernandez.
Francisco traveled to the United Stated in 1986 in search of greater opportunities, and in that same year became a member of several Mexican Folk dance groups in the Santa Barbara area. Within a year's time Francisco became the Mexican Folk Master teacher at La Casa de la Raza, teaching three times per week to students ages 4 to 15 years of age. It was common to see as many as 60 students participating in his classes.

Francisco yearned to spread his passion of and expand his impact through dance; therefore, he founded his youth performing company, Grupo De Danza Folklorica Quetzalcoatl.

With the vision to teach a younger generation of dancers under the direction of master teacher Francisco Espinosa, in order to perform & share this gift with the world, this non-profit organization became a reality.

The organization's goal being to keep the rich and vast wealth of dances of the Mexican nation and showcasing them with the most professional, high-quality standard, while above all, maintaining their authentic beauty & charm.
